Animated or Live

Moseying over to Indie YA Books I found the post Animated or Live, discussing the new fairytale movies that have come out lately.

MaleficentThe first mention goes to Maleficent, staring Angelina Jolie, the new Disney movie about the evil fairy in Sleeping Beauty. It’s a wonderful twist to the story of this evil person, who turns out to be not so evil, but a woman scorned and wounded by love. The evil spell she cast on Princess Aurora brings Maleficent to watch over the child to make sure her incantation comes to pass. Unfortunately for the fairy, she falls in love with the child.

If you love fairy tales with a dark tone check out Maleficent if you haven’t already.

Snow_White_and_the_HuntsmanThe post then talks about Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron as the evil queen. This movie is also quite dark and came into theaters in 2012.

Do you enjoy the remake of these fairy tales or do you prefer the animated Disney versions? I’d love to hear your opinion.

Dark fairy tales are fine with me. I think it’s unsettling in a good way to see such innocent children’s stories twisted in such a manner.

when you think about it, fairy tales are pretty dark and scary. take snow white, an evil queen uses dark magic to kill her step daughter… in red riding hood a wolf eats the grandmother just so he can wait for the girl and eat her too. in the originals i don’t think they all have happy endings. at least Maleficent did have a happy ending.
      chuck, thanks for stopping by
